History

Since its establishment, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Undana was named the Kupang Branch of the Malang Institute of Teacher Training and Education (IKIP). However, since 1 September 1962, the Kupang branch of IKIP Malang was merged into Nusa Cendana University to become the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. The merger of IKIP into Nusa Cendana University was based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Indonesia Number 111 of 1962 dated 28 August 1962. This decision was strengthened by Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 67 of 1963, Based on this decree, since 1964, the Kupang branch of IKIP Malang joined the University of Nusa Cendana under the name Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Undana.

In its development, FKIP consists of 8 departments, namely the Department of Mathematics and Sciences Education (MIPA), Department of Geography Education, Department of History Education, Department of Economic Education, Department of Education Science and Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Department of Language and Arts Education. The MIPA Education Department oversees the Mathematics Education, Biology Education, Physics Education and Chemistry Education Study Programmes. The Department of Education includes Counselling Education, Out of School Education, Physical Education, Health and Recreation, Elementary School Teacher Education, Early Childhood Teacher Education, Language and Arts Education and consists of English Education and Indonesian Language Education. The Department of Technical and Vocational Education consists of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Building Engineering study programmes. Since the implementation of the new regulation, all departments have been abolished. The study programmes are directly carried by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Thus, currently the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education consists of 18 study programmes, namely Mathematics Education, Biology Education, Physics Education, Chemistry Education, English Education, Indonesian Language Education, Pancasila and Citizenship Education, Geography Education, History Education, Economics Education, Guidance and Counselling Education, Out of School Education, Elementary School Teacher Education, Early Childhood Teacher Education, Physical Education, Health and Recreation, Mechanical Engineering Education, Building Engineering Education and Electrical Engineering Education. 

The English Education Study Programme is one of the study programmes within the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. This study programme was opened with the Decree of Study Programme Opening Number 100/DKTI/KEP/1984 on 21 August 1984 and signed by Sukadji Ranuwihardjo. The English Education study programme is accredited B by BAN-PT with BAN-PT Decree Number 506/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/VI/2015. The number of active students until 2019 was 964 people and was the largest number of students compared to other study programs in FKIP Undana. The number of permanent civil servant lecturers is 22 people, 2 contract lecturers and 3 part-time lecturers. The study program has 3 professors, namely Prof. Drs. Josua Bire, MA, M.Ed, Ph.D; Prof. Dr. Fransiskus Bustan, M.Lib, and Prof. Drs. Tans Feliks, M.Ed, Pd.D. This study program contributes 42.9% of professors in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Nusa Cendana University.
